Background
Dr. Peter Adebayo Adewuyi is a seasoned public health physician and senior field epidemiologist with over two decades of experience spanning outbreak response, epidemiological modeling, and digital health innovations across West Africa. He currently serves as Resident Advisor for the Liberia Field Epidemiology Training Programme (FETP) and Country Team Lead for AFENET Liberia.
Expertise
A graduate of the Nigeria FELTP and holder of a PhD in Public Health, Dr. Adewuyi has led complex outbreak responses—including Ebola, Mpox, and Lassa fever—and played pivotal roles in shaping surveillance systems and public health workforce development in Liberia, The Gambia, and Nigeria.
Innovation
In 2014, during the Ebola Outbreak response in Nigeria, he worked with an IT expert to develop a real-time innovative technology for contact tracing and monitoring, and case investigation which contributed to prompt control of the outbreak.
Current Focus
He is a strong advocate for integrating artificial intelligence in public health and recently presented on 'Using AI for Scientific Writing' at the JIEPH webinar series. His interests include applying AI and big data for real-time disease prediction, optimizing immunization systems, and strengthening fragile health systems.
Contributions
As a peer reviewer for multiple international journals and contributor to national surveillance guidelines, Dr. Adewuyi continues to bridge science, policy, and innovation in the region's health security architecture.
