Background
Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, an experienced pediatrician and accomplished infectious disease epidemiologist, previously served as the Director General and CEO of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control & Prevention (NCDC). During his tenure at the NCDC, he played a key role in advancing Nigeria's response to COVID-19. He also secured substantial funding for programmes, managed significant budgets, and led a large team dedicated to combating epidemic and endemic pathogens.
Expertise
Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa's extensive experience includes work at national, regional, continental, and international levels on Lassa fever, vaccines and immunization, respiratory syncytial virus, malaria, tuberculosis, and health systems. He is also currently a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).
Education
Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa obtained his undergraduate medical qualifications from the University of Ilorin in Nigeria and completed his pediatric residency at the University of Lagos Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Lagos, where he received a fellowship from the West African College of Physicians in Pediatrics. He then earned an MSc from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in London and a Ph.D. (both in epidemiology) from the University of Amsterdam.
Academic Role
He also served as an associate professor in infectious disease epidemiology at LSHTM before his appointment at NCDC.
